The Fondazione del Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino announces in co-production with the Fondazione Academia Montis Regalis, the programming of the opera Il Ciro by Alessandro Scarlatti from the drama by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, never performed in modern times since its first performance (1712)

On the podium of the Baroque Orchestra of the Accademia Montis Regalis is the conductor Chiara Cattani, the direction is by Maria Paola Viano; the sets are by Darko Petrovic the costumes by Giovanna Fiorentini and the lights by Nevio Cavina. Some of the show's backdrops are based on original drawings by Filippo Juvarra. The production will be documented and filmed by Sky Italia, which will make a documentary of it.
The narrative plot of the opera, simple and linear, in three acts with a symphony, runs parallel to the visual plot, in a succession of arias and recitatives, with duets, two concluding choruses and three dances. It traverses and explores all the typologies of an ideal Arcadian itinerary and stages the recognition of Cyrus - the heir to the throne usurped by the evil Astiage king of Media - in the innocent shepherd Elcinus, raised by Mithridates (together with…
